I hate not having a good personal garage.

My car has been losing coolant and vibrating while idling. I correctly guessed that the vibration was caused by bad motor mounts, and that’s the part where I wish I had the hardware to fix the thing myself. To have those and the radiator replaced, I’m spending about $940. On a 22-year-old hatchback.

I don’t even know if that’s remotely reasonable, honestly. What do you guys think?

Sounds very high, but it depends so much on the vehicle and where you live.

Sounds like a lot of money for that but I honestly have no idea what shops normally charge for labor.

If I had to do motor mounts and a radiator on my 944 the parts would be around $600-700 if buying new Porsche parts. So that price wouldn’t be too bad for a shop to do the work. However, OEM Porsche parts are outrageously expensive. Normal cars should probably cost less than $400 for those parts.

You needs more quotes. If everyone had work performed after only getting one proposal, I’d be rolling in sweet, sweet NAVFAC money.

That’s what I’m thinking. I just wish I knew the actual cost of the parts themselves.

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking. My dad already dropped the car off though, and as far as I know it’s already finished and waiting to be picked up. I really hope he shopped around...

From what I was seeing on RockAuto, the radiator will be <$100 and the motor mounts should be no more than maybe $50 for the pair. Rip. Off.

The bill will have a breakdown of parts and labor pricing.

Better than having a monthly payment.

I’ve been working on my cars since I got my license 12 years ago and have yet to have a garage. Do it in the street, fix it yourself.
